We are extremely excited to announce A Sunday in Soho, opening September 1st at Fabrikreal Glanzmann Generalunternehmung AG in Basel, Switzerland. A Sunday in Soho is a two-person show featuring more than 60 works from the past 12 months by Joe Strasser and Joseph O’Neal.

“The works are intended to invoke archaic revelations that are embedded deep within the human psyche.
The artists achieve this by taking on a Shaman like approach to creating objects and paintings. O’Neal and Strasser
believe that in order to create an object that conveys an opportunity for transcendence; one must travel to the
unknown areas of thought, and bring back symbols and forms that encompass universal meanings. Strasser and
O’Neal work intuitively rather than expressively; thus using themselves as a catalyst for the unknown.”

The group photography show from members of Jai Tanju’s Film por Vida print exchange program is traveling to London this summer. After a successful run at New York’s FUSE Gallery last year, the show will be on view at Wayward Gallery June 16 - 27.

Film por Vida is an exchange of photographic prints through the mail by over 200 photographers from around the world. In the last six years Jai has sent out thousands of photos to photographers, film lovers and artists in return receiving over 1,500 pieces of mail that will be exhibited in the show along with 26 framed photographs by:

Geoff Henshall’s work consists of mixed media, with elements of collage, and shows vulnerability backed by emotional chords commonly found in life. He tends to work in layers often placing subjects defiant to their surroundings. Henshall strives to show restraint and discipline while progressing his work further as an artist and observer.

We have always been a fan of Polomik’s work here at bluetan. So we try and keep him on our radar as much as possible. His newest work that simultaneously explores nature and electronic maps and boards have us yet again realizing why we love this guy. Check out his guest gallery for more work.

Spanning numerous media, Polomik’s work traces visual and mental systems. Paths in which one might move, see, feel, or imagine often define and connect subjects, expressing spiritual progressions of search, growth, and understanding.

After 3 years of working with Joe on various projects and shows. We all decided putting him in the fold was a no-brainer. Lots of exciting things to come from Joe in 2011.

According Strasser: “ It has taken me over 20 years to completely paint what I want. My work is mostly about using found material and placing it in a new context and giving it new life. This creates a certain kind of poetry with the found detritus. I also believe sex and death should always be present in a piece. There’s a Dionysian Apollonian pull of divine inspiration and the latticework of coincidence. “

ISM is hosting a book release party for Still Developing: A Story of Instant Gratification which features polaroids from bluetanner Joseph O’Neal, as well as Jai Tanju, C.R. Stecyk, andy many more!

Polaroid Party + Book Release

In its original incarnation, Instant Gratification was a celebratory tribute to instant film. The opening at Hibbleton Gallery was set to coincide with the expiration date of Polaroid’s beloved 600 series; a last hurrah on August 7, 2009. Instead, word spread. The exhibition drew an audience of over 800 enthusiasts on opening night in Fullerton, and a crowd of over 2,000 for the Los Angeles vernissage at Bergamot Station, Copro Gallery on January 9, 2010.

Now coupled with a limited edition book – which features over 200 professional and amateur photographers from around the world as well as 30 essayists touting the medium’s invaluable assets – Instant Gratification’s cause continues to expand.
